North Hills High School transitioning to laptops for students

Posted Sunday, May 5, 2024

Beginning in 2024-25, all North Hills High School students will be issued a Dell Latitude 3140 2-in-1 laptop instead of the previously issued district iPad.

The laptops better align with high school coursework and the high school’s vision to prepare students for multiple pathways after high school. The new devices will allow students to utilize both tablet and laptop features.

Some applications currently on the iPad will no longer be available on the new laptops, including the Notability app.

Students will need to back up all Notability files to their NHSD Google account before turning in their iPads at the end of the school year. Step by step instructions for doing so can be found here. A video tutorial is available here.

Please note: Once the instructions above are followed and settings confirmed, the backup will remain and no further action is needed.

The instructions and video will also be shared with students in grades 8-11 during homeroom.

At the high school, student iPads (grades 9-11) will be collected the last week of school during English classes. Eighth graders will turn in their iPad during social studies classes. Senior iPads will be collected at graduation practice on May 29.

iPads will continue to be issued each year to students in grades K-8.
